Alphabet Soup of FInancial Aid
1)You can’t get financial aid unless you apply, so fill out the FAFSA– Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
2) This FAFSA form will give you your EFC – Expected Family Contribution. This is the amount the federal government determines you and your family are able to pay for the upcoming year of college, based on factors you provide.
3) Financial need is determined by the colleges you are looking at. They use the college COA – COST of Attendance and subtract your EFC. This does NOT mean the school will provide the rest of that amount. Any unmet need, you will still have to find a way to pay for this in scholarships or loans
So be prepared to pay your EFC ( though this number can be varied) and pay any unmet need.
